Democrats lost the ground they had made up during the Trump era with many suburban voters, especially the exurbs outside of the Beltway in Washington, in and around Richmond, and in the Tidewater area. As one Democrat said to me during that era, he said, I'm worried that we're just renting these voters.Īnd based on the results of last night, indeed, it looks like they were just rented, at least at this point.
